Jaya condemns CM, Veerasamy for remarks on judiciary

Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today condemned Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy for having ''cast aspersions'' on the judiciary.

Stating that the judicary was functioning like a heart of the country, she said if the government alone was allowed to function without any regard for laws and courts, it would pave way for autocracy.

Recalling DMK founder C N Annadurai's remarks that incapable people would criticise ethical persons' ideology and thoughts, the AIADMK supremo said the late leader's own partymen were now castigating the judiciary.

She alleged that the whole country was aware of the ruling DMK's ''violence and murder of democracy'' during the recent Corporation elections.

In such a situation, approaching the Court for a solution was the only option left, she added.

Ms Jayalalithaa said Mr Karunanidhi, by seeking the resignation of 99 councillors even without waiting for the verdict of the third judge in the wake of the split verdict of a Madras High Court bench, had conceded that violence had taken place.

How could such a person protect the democracy ?, she remarked.
