Jalandhar, Feb 6 (UNI) Jan Morcha president Raj Babbar today said his party would play a key role in the formation of the next government in Uttar Pradesh after assembly elections.

Talking to reporters here today, the actor-turned-politician said the ruling Samajwadi Party was heading for a sure defeat in the coming assembly elections and the Jan Morcha would hold the balance of power.

''Formation of new government in the state is unlikely without Jan Morcha's participation,'' he said.

Jan Morcha, he said, would contest UP assembly elections in alliance with some left parties and in the post poll scenario it would extend issue based cooperation to a secular political formation.

However, it would not have any truck with the ruling Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP).

In Punjab, Jan Morcha is contesting elections in alliance with CPI, CPI(M), Lok Bhalai Party and Akali Dal(1920).

The party has fielded its candidates on four assembly seats.

Mr Babbar was in the town to address a rally in favour of the party candidates.
