New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Indian today introduced a 24-hour online check-in facility for its passengers.

Called i-check-in, the self check-in facility was launched by Indian's Chairman and Managing Director Vishwapati Trivedi here.

The procedure is user friendly with simple steps to follow after logging on to the airline's website www.indianairlines.in.

The passenger can go directly for security check after taking a print out of the boarding card.

The 24 X 7 facility will offer passengers holding e-tickets the ease of choosing their seat, checking-in and getting a boarding card, all from the comfort of their home or office, for flights departing either on the same day or the next day up to two hours before the scheduled departure of the flight.

The facility has been extended, to begin with, to passengers holding e-tickets, Dial-A-Ticket, net ticket and Bid and Fly tickets for travel on domestic sectors only.

A unique feature of the facility is that as many as nine passengers can check-in through a single PNR.

While passengers with baggage can also opt for i-Check-in, they will, however, have to reach the airport one hour prior to departure of the flight to check-in their baggage.

So also, passengers, who need special assistance like wheelchairs, ambulift or are unaccompanied minors, must report to the Duty Manager at the airport one hour before the flight departure.

''The facility will help save time, increase productivity and offer seamless service to our clients.'' Mr Trivedi said.

Bird Information Systems is the service provider for the application.

Indian is on the threshold of a major technology upgrade. On the anvil is a state-of-the-art Passenger Services System (PSS), besides the induction of 42 brand new Airbus aircraft from mid-2007.
