Four militants killed and one surrender in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 6 (UNI) Four militants were killed and another surrendered while two hideouts were busted in Jammu and Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police conducted a search operation at village Daderkote in Kulgam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag this afternoon.

During the search, militants hiding in the area opened fire which was returned by the security forces, he said adding in the ensuing gun battle two militants were killed. Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

He said troops of 42 battalion Border Security Force (BSF) and SOG also conducted a search operation at Chuntwari village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir last night.

During the operation, an encounter took place in which two Hizbul Mujahideen militants -- Javid Ahmad Ganaie and Sajjad Ahmad -- were killed. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.

Superintendent of Police Dr Haseeb Mughal said Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off a particular house in village Pulwali Marwal, Handwara, in the frontier district of Kupwara following a tip-off.

He said when a security force party was about to storm the house, the inmates, fearing damage to their house, started crying and requested the HM militant Shabir Ahmed Bhat alias Imran, to surrender.

On a call by the police, the militant agreed to surrender before a senior police officer in presence of his parents.

He said the parents of the militant were brought to the spot and he (militant) surrendered alongwith one AK rifle and some arms and ammunition.

Dr Mughal said Shabir had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in July 2001 and returned in May 2006 and was active in the area since then.
