First India-EU Science meet in Delhi tomorrow

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) The first India-EU Science meet will open here tomorrow with participation of 37 delegates from 20 EU member states, besides icons of European science, including Nobel laureates.

The focus of the two-day meet will be on energy and environment.

The event is unique as it is for the first time that EU member states' science ministerial delegation is meeting outside Europe.

The delegates will include seven ministers from Germany, Slovenia, Portugal, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Poland, and nine secretaries from France, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Estonia, Spain and Romania.

The icons, including Nobel laureates Paul Crutzen and Bert Sakman, will interact with about 600 bright Indian school students and 400 young research scholars to motivate them to take up science as a career.

Among the other icons participating in the meet are science, technology, innovation policy specialists from ESF, Eurab, and CEOs of European companies such as KEMA Energy Co, and Suez French Water&Environment Co.

From India, a 20-member scientic delegation will take part.
