Family attempts suicide; one dies

Ahmedabad, Feb 6 (UNI) A woman was killed, while her husband and daughter suffered serious burn injuries in a suspected suicide pact.

According to police, a mason named Sunnybhai Christian Verghese, his wife Alkaben (38) and daughter set themselves afire yesterday.

The incident came to light when a passerby, Ajitbhai Ranjitbhai Parmar, noticed smoke emitting from the house.

He immediately alerted the police. However, when help arrived, Alkaben had already died. Sunny and his daughter were rushed to Vadilal Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

The couple have three other children who are residing in a hostel, police said.
