Patna, Feb 06: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said the democratic system was the most effecive system of governance as it inculcates tolerance and help maintain peace and harmony in the society.

He was inaugurating an Exhibition on "Parliamentary Democracy:Our heritage and achievements", organised by the parliamentary museum and archive division of Lok Sabha secretariat and Bihar legislative Assembly secretariat in collaboration with the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity(DAVP).

He said the exhibition would prove to be a good opportunity for imparting knowledge to the students about parliamentry system. He said Rs 5000 had been sanctioned to all government schools for excursions.

He lauded the efforts of the Lok Sabha saying that the association between the Lok Sabha secratariat and Assembly secretariats had strengthened during the regime of Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

Bihar Legislative Assembly Speaker Uday Narain Chudhary said the exhibition would conclude on February 12. He said spread over eleven sectors, the exhibition traces the growth and development of democratic tradition in our country beginning from the ancient times to the modern parliamentary institutions.

He said the exhibition had laid special emphasis on the Indian freedom movement, development of the constitution of India and working of the Indian parliament with the help of visuals in the form of photographs. It has also highlighted the legislative set up in the different states of the country with particular emphasis on the democratic heritage and legislative activities in Bihar.

The statistical profile displayed in the exhibition provide information related to educational background of members of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha-- their average age, the representation of women members in Parliament, the time spent in the sittings and the business transacted and others.

The exhibition also showed the Indian federal system. Rare photographs related to framing of Constitution of India and provisional parliament had also been shown.Films on various parliamentary subjects will also be shown during the exhibition.

The idea of organising such exhibitions in differnt states was mooted by the speaker of Lok Sabha, Mr Somnath Chatterjee to apprise the common people of the democratic heritage of India.
