New Delhi, Feb 6: India's level of safety compliance in civil aviation is much higher than the world average, International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Secretary General Taieb Cherif said today.

''Further, the level of compliance of the 10,000 rules of ICAO pertaining to safety is 99.3 per cent, which is among the highest in the world,'' Mr Cherif told Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel here.

Besides, India was one the first few countries which had conveyed its consent to ICAO to make public its safety-related information. The other member countries of ICAO are expected to do so only by March next year.

Mr Cherif said the Asia Pacific region was registering the highest growth in the civil aviation sector in the world and was expected to keep growing at a fast pace in the next 10-15 years.

''Within this region, India and China are leading, and India has more potential for growth between the two,'' he told Mr Patel.

The Secretary General said India was one of the few countries in the world that had started addressing the issues of infrastructure capacity, airline capacity and airspace management.
