Change of name for project condemned

Kakinada, Feb 6 (UNI) Telugu Mahila President and Former MP Vanga Geetha Viswanath today condemned Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for changing the nomenclature of Pushkara Lift Irrigation to Thota Venkatachalam Godavari Lift Irrigation.

Addressing presspersons here, Ms Viswanath said the name takes after the once-in-12-year Pushkaram in the Godavari River and said the sacred name should not be changed for political reasons.

During Telugu Desam Party (TDP) rule, several Congress leaders names were used for various institutions.

Even Former Chief Minister Jalagam Vengala Rao's name was patronised for some institutions during the TDP rule, she claime and requested Dr Reddy to retain the old name for the scheme.

She threatened to launch an agitation if the old name was not restored.
