Centre should constitute monitoring committee: BJP
Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Feb 6 (UNI) Bharathiya Janata Party (BJP) Tamil Nadu unit President L Ganesan today demanded that the Centre should constitute a monitoring committee immediately for the proper implementation of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final verdict.
In an informal chat with newspersons here, Mr Ganesan said though the quantum of water allocated to Tamil Nadu by the Tribunal was less compared to the Tribunal's interim award, the farmers of Tamil Nadu were very happy to welcome the final verdict delivered after an ordeal of 16 years.
He said nobody should think that Tamil Nadu had won the issue and Karnataka had failed. There was no ''Victory or Loss'' for anybody.
The farmers of Mandya (Karnataka) and Delta Districts of Tamil Nadu were maintaining peace, he added.
On Pattali Makkal Katchi's demand for convening an all party meeting in Tamil Nadu to discuss the final verdict of the Tribunal, the BJP leader said it was not necessary to convene an all party meeting, but if Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi calls for it, the BJP would participate.
