BSE Sensex slips into red, closes below 14500 mark

Mumbai, Feb 6: The Sensex today slipped into the red, registering a decline of 36.71 points to settle at 14,478.19 on the Bombay Stock Exchange as profit booking at higher levels halted its northward journey.

Mirroring the mixed trend, the 30-stocks Sensitive Index opened on a firm note at 14541.24 points, touched the day's high of 14564.80 points, tumbled by 112 points to plunge to the day's low of 14452.78 points, before finishing at 14478.19 points over the previous close 14515.90.

The S&P Cnx Nifty index made a start at 4216.55 points, touched the day's high of 4228.15 points, a low of 4186.15 points and closed at 4191.65 points, netting loss of 23.90 points from the previous day's close of 4191.65 points Three huge block deals of 23.14 lakh shares each in TCS boosted turnover at the BSE. The TCS counter was the top-traded on BSE with a turnover of Rs 913.47 crore. However, The TCS stock was down 0.66 per cent to Rs 1296.50 on total volumes of 70.30 lakh shares, dealers said.

Among the 30-Sensex pack, 17 declined while the rest advanced during the course of trading.

Yesterday's star performer Reliance Communications (RCL) emerged the top loser, down by 4.20 per cent to Rs 493.50, on a volume of 20.98 lakh shares.
