BJD woman activist attempts self-immolation before Orissa CM
Puri, Feb 6 (UNI) A woman activist of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today attempted self-immolation before Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik at a function in Ganeswarpur village under the Gop block of the district.
According to the eyewitnesses, one Saraswati Naik, a mahila leader of the BJD, who was denied Zila Parishad ticket, suddenly went inside the security ring near the podium, where the Chief Minister was sitting and poured kerosene on her body.
She was about to set herself on fire when the alert security personnel of the Chief Minister foiled her attempt.
The woman was then rushed to the Gop hospital.
The BJD activist was later interrogated by the police.
The Chief Minister in a whirlwind tour of the district had attended a number of election meetings.
