Shillong, Feb 6 (UNI) A day after Bangladeshi nationals had threatened to cross over to India, the Border Security Forces is maintaining a strict vigil to check human movement in Meghalaya's Pyrdiwah-Dawki village on the Indo-Bangla border.

Yesterday, around 300 Bangladeshi nationals made an abortive attempt to cross over to Dawki village in Jaintia Hills district.

Later, the BSF personnel and Bangladesh Rifles prevented the movement of the Bangladeshis, advancing towards the Indian side.

''We have sent additional troops and our men have been alerted to maintain a strict vigil in those areas,'' a senior BSF official on condition of anonymity told UNI here today.

The official said the matter was also taken up with the BDR urging them to ensure that there was no human movement along the international border.

He said the Bangladeshis attempt to sneak into the country was in protest against the recent demolition of a village in the neighbouring country on February 2 and 3.

During the demolition drive, the BSF officials said the Bangladeshi nationals even shouted slogans urging ''Bangladeshi authorities to stop their demolition or they cross over to India.'' Meanwhile, the Meghalaya police have sent its team to investigate the matter.
