A HM militant surrender in Kashmir before police and parents

Srinagar, Feb 6 (UNI) In a first incident of its kind in the 17-year -long militancy, a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) today surrendered before police and his parents.

Superintendent of Police Dr Haseeb Mughal said Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) cordoned off a particular house in village Pulwali Marwal, Handwara, in the frontier district of Kupwara following a tip off.

He said when a security force party was about to storm the house, the inmates, fearing damage to their house, started weeping and requested the HM militant Shabir Ahmed Bhat alias Imran, to surrender.

On a call by poliuce, the militant agreed to surrender before a senior police officer in presence of his parents.

He said both the parents of the militant were brought to the spot and he (militant) surrendered alongwith one AK rifle and some arms and ammunition.

Dr Mughal said Shabir had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in July 2001 and returned in May 2006 and was active in the area since then.
