SDF urges Governor to take cognisance of anti-national emotions
Gangtok, Feb 5 (UNI) The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) today took great exception to the ''anti-national emotion'' expressed by the Sikkim Pradesh Congress (SPC) and its president Nar Bahadur Bhandari and urged the Governor to take congnisance of it.
The SPC in a recent publication entitled '' Congress Sandesh,'' had questioned the merger of Sikkim with India''.
SDF spokesman Bhim Dahal told newspersons that they condemned such ''unpatriotic'' statements from a national party. The SDF said such statement could create ''anti-national'' feelings among the citizens and pose a law and order problem in the state.
Mr Dahal said the booklet was first published in Nepali and then in English. But interestingly, the merger issue was deleted in the english edition. It showed the mala fide intention of the Congress party and its desperation to come to power by hook or crook.
Since questioning the sanctity of the merger was anti-national in nature, Mr Bhandari could not make it a political issue and mislead the people, the SDF leader said.
His party would soon write to the Central government on the issue, he added.
The former MP said that some Opposition political parties with no mass base were questioning the integrity and legitimacy of the government in order to create instability and insecurity.
The allegations were designed to create a law and order problem and put hurdles in the smooth functioning of the government, the MP added.
The SDF submitted a memorandum to Governor V Ramara Rao in this regard demanding immediate intervention.
