PGVCL's surprise checks unearth power-theft worth Rs 8 lakhs

Jamnagar, Feb 5 (UNI) Surprise checks conducted by the Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (PGVCL) in the last two days have led to the unearthing of power-thefts approximately worth Rs 8 lakhs, company officials said here today.

On Saturday, PGVCL conducted a night-time inspection of a factory, Mira Industries, located at Khambaliya area, 56 km from here on the Jamnagar-Khambaliya highway. It was found that a cable was illegally connected to the transformer to pilfer electricity. It has been assessed that Rs 4.50 lakh worth of power has been stolen, officials said. The factory, which produces emery powder from bauxite, is owned by Dharmesh Meraman Lagariya.

Besides, PGVCL's other surprise-checks conducted in the city and rural areas have unearthed 17 illegal connections wherein power-theft worth approximately Rs 3.46 lakhs has been unearthed, officials added.
