New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) In view of recent incidents of communal violence in Gorakhpur and attacks on migrant workers in Asom, the Centre would hold a high -level meeting to review the internal security situation in the country, including communal harmony, on February 8.

The meeting would focus on any lacunae or weakness in the internal security scenario and deliberate any success and failure of the government in dealing with them. Measures to tighten the internal security would be discussed at the meeting, sources in Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Issues like naxalism, situation in Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern states of the country would be deliberated in detail. The meeting is crucial in view of the rising incidents of insurgency in Asom and factional fights in Nagaland. The incidents of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and growing unrest against the fake encounters and custodial violence in the valley may also come up for discussion.

Communal violence in Gorakhpur town of Uttar Pradesh and steps to improve communal harmony in the country would be discussed. The government is already planning to bring a bill to ensure greater communal harmony in the country. The situation in hinterland would also be deliberated at the meeting.

The meeting would be attended by key Director Generals of Police including those from Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. However, DGP's of Asom and Manipur would not be able to attend the meet as the former would be busy in the National Games to be held in Guwahati while the latter would be preparing for assembly elections in Manipur.
