Lodge Manager tries to assault French tourist

Chennai, Feb 5 (UNI) A 35-year-old French tourist woman ran out to the busy Waltax Road here last night while the Manager of a lodge in which she was staying allegedly tried to barge into her room and sexually assault her.

Police sources said the woman, who had come along with her friends recently to Mahabalipuram for a short stay, wanted to visit the city on Sunday night. She booked a room at the private mansion and planned to go around the city today.

Earlier during the day Inspector General of Police (Railways) J Raja told newspersons that the foreigner was rescued by duty police personnel at the Central railway station. Since the victim refused to return to the lodge, she was kept in thefirst class waiting room, he added.

He said the railway police handed over the Manager of the mansion to the local police for further investigations.

The foreign tourist was later sent to Mahabalipuram, he added.

However, the foreigner did not lodge any complaint with the local police, police sources confirmed.
