Lucknow, Feb 5 (UNI) Alleging that law and order of Uttar Prdaesh is going from bad to worse, Congress MP Jitin Prasad today said the indiscreet allotment of weapons' licence by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government would further harm the state's peace.

''The DMs distributing weapons' licence to 'musclemen' and criminals is a matter of inquiry at the higest level,'' the young Congress MP from Shahjahanpur told reporters here.

He said the DMs were doing so at the behest of the ruling Samajwadi Party and it was bound to effect tranquility of UP during the coming assmebly poll.

Mr Prasad said he planned to give a memorandum in this regard to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswamy asking him to order an inquiry into the role of DMs in this regard.

''This is my direct allegation that the weapons' licence are being given to criminals, who would use them in the favour of the ruling party in the coming poll,'' he said.

The Congress MP said the deteriorating law and order situation was already a matter of concern and now such acts by the government should be looked into by all.
