Deepankar demands SEZ withdrawal
Patna, Feb 5 (UNI) Expressing concern over the acquisition of arable land for creating Special Economic Zone(SEZ) in different parts of the country, CPI(ML) national general secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya today demanded that the Centre scrap laws related to SEZ saying there should not be such special zones for industries affecting the interests of the farmers.
Addressing a state level party workers meeting here, Mr Bhattacharya said a vast area of land in Singur and Nandigram in West Bengal were being acquired by the CPI(M) government which triggered large scale protests from the farmers and different political parties.
'' West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya appeared to be adamant on acquisition of arable lands without caring for the interests of the farmers,'' he said asserting that the CPI(ML) would not allow it to happen.
Strongly advocating for the abolition of SEZ laws, he said there was no need for such anti-farmers' laws which had been framed to extend favour to the big industrial houses of the country.
'' Farmers had been forced to adopt agitational path to protest the anti-poor and repressive policies of the the government at Kalinganagar, Barnala, Banaras, Dadri and it would soon transform into a mass movement if the government did not mend its ways'' he warned.
