Congress alleges police attack on party workers near Singur

Kolkata, Feb 5 (UNI) West Bengal Pradesh Congress today strongly condemned the alleged police brutality on opposition party workers in different areas near Singur in Hooghly district since yesterday.

Issuing a statement here tonight, WBPCC Working President Pradip Bhattacharya severely criticised the role of the state law enforcing agency and blamed them for ''mercilessly assaulting'' the opposition political party workers including those from the Congress,Trinamool Congress and the SUCI without any provocation.

''They also forcibly entered the houses of opposition workers at Kamarkundu and Bajmelia on the outskirts of Singur with the help of local ruling party members and created panic in the entire locality,'' Mr Bhattacharya alleged and demanded stern punishment to the guilty police personnel and their officials.

Several opposition workers, including some women, were injured in the unabated police atrocities,he alleged.
