Mandya, Karnataka, Feb 5: Cauvery Hitarakshana Horatta Samiti, spearheading the Cauvery water agitation in Karnataka, today decided to hold a meeting tomorrow to analyse the verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

Speaking to newspersons here, Samiti President G Made Gowda said that ''though the judgement has come out, still there is confusion about the quantum of water to be released to the lower riparian State of Tamil Nadu. The Samiti did not want to mislead the people.

We will decide the future course of action tomorrow. If the judgement was against Karnataka, the agitation would be in a Gandhian way.'' The meeting would be addressed by irrigation expert H N Nanje Gowda, former Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party State President S Bangarappa, KRS President Puttanaiah and farmer leaders, he said.

Mr Gowda appealed to the agitators not to take law in their own hands and asked them to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, 20 protesting farmers were arrested in the city as a precautionary measure. Road blockades were put up in Maddur, Chennegowdannadoddi, Kalahalli and Budhanur.

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike held protests in various places, including Mysore.

In Chamarajanagar district bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, buses from both the States were not allowed to cross the border.

Tamil channels were not aired in Chamarajanagar town. A bandh was observed in Kollegal town.

Shops and business establishments in some pockets of Banglore downed their shutters. Schools were declared a holiday in the afternoon.
