BJP to fight UP election on its own: Kalyan Singh

Barabanki, Feb 5 (UNI) BJP national vice president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh today reiterated that the party would contest the forthcoming assembly election on its own.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Singh said ''BJP has sour memories of having a coalition earlier...therefore, once bitten twice shy.'' ''BJP's success in the recent local body poll came as bolt from the blue for those, who thought the party had lost its mass base.

Even the sucess of the recent BJP national executive meet at Lucknow shocked the people,'' Mr Singh noted.

Hitting out at the Samajwadi Party (SP)-led UP government, he alleged CM Mulayam Singh Yadav is only interested in garnering Muslim votes and has no concern for the farmers committing suicide in Bundelkhand region.

''Driven by poverty, over 1,000 farmers have committed suicide so far in Bundelkhand,'' he claimed.

Expresing concern over the 'dismal' law and order situation in UP, he said during the three year Mulayam rule, 20,000 murders, 5,000 rapes and over 1,000 abduction cases were reported.
