Over Rs 15 cr given as 'shagun' in poor girls' marriages
Chandigarh, Feb 4 (UNI) Haryana Government has spent over an amount of Rs 15 crore so far during the current financial year as ''shagun'' on the marriages of the daughters of widows of all sections living below the poverty line and of the families belonging to the Scheduled Castes.
While disclosing this here today, an official spokesman said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is committed to the empowerment of women by launching a number of development and welfare schemes for them.
He said that with a view to promote higher education among women, a women's university in the name of Bhagat Phool Singh has been set up in Khanpur Kalan village of Sonepat district adding.
Haryana is the first state in the country to open such a University.
He said girl students of the state were being given the facility of concessional travel in Haryana Roadways buses. Twenty five per cent seats have been reserved for girls in Industrial Training Institutes and technical education institutes, hea added.
