Varanasi, Feb 4 (UNI) Naga sadhus, associated with the 'Awahan Akhara' here, today joined the Muslims to perform a 'Vishwa Shanti Yajna' for world peace.

The 'yajna' was performed at the Rana Mahal Ghat dotting the Ganga river here to pray for world peace in the wake of the communal riots in Gorakhpur and suicide bombings in Iraq.

''One and all, irrespective of religious affiliations, take bath in the sacred Ganga river in Varanasi and hence, the 'yajna' was performed to give a call for peace at the time when virus of terrorism is gaining uncontrollable proportions, besides the communal flare up eating the prosperity of our country,'' chairman of Prerna Manch Haji Badiruddin said.

A similar 'yajna' was also performed by the Muslims associated with the Navyuvak Jagriti Dal at the district headquarters here this afternoon.

Recently, the Gangotri Seva Samiti (GSS) along with some Muslim citizens of the city had organised a special evening ' Ganga arti' at the Dashwashamedh Ghat here to pray for return of peace and normalcy in riot-torn Gorakhpur.
