Mild snow in Himachal
Shimla, Feb 4 (UNI) The higher altitude areas of Kullu and Chamba districts experienced a mild snowfall, while light showers lashed isolated places in mid and lower hills of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hours, the met office said today.
The high altitude areas of Kullu and Chamba received mild intermittent snow last light and early morning today, plummeting temperatures in the district, while mid and lower areas were lashed by lights showers last night.
Isolated places in Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and Bilaspur districts and lower areas of Chamba district experienced light showers during the last 24 hrs, breaking a complete dry spell during the winter season.
The isolated snow and rain in the state had plummeted temperatures in the higher altitude areas of the tribal districts of Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba where minimum temperatures were being recorded between minus 10 to minus 18 after recording a night temperatures between minus eight and 15 degrees a fortnight ago.
Snowclouds were hovering over the tribal districts since morning and cool icy winds were lowering the temperatures, which were still a few degrees above normal, the met office said.
Overcast conditions prevailed at Shimla and other adjoining areas early morning today before the clouds thinned out as the day progressed.
The met office said the night temperature at Shimla stood at 6.7 degrees Celsius, which was still three degrees above normal, while Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded lows of 9.3 and four degrees respectively.
The minimum temperature at Kalpa in Kinnuar was minus point three degrees and the met office said it was almost three to five degrees above normal during this period of the year.
