Killing of woman constable surfaced in Kashmir
Srinagar, Feb 4 (UNI) After successful operation against the police officials involved in the fake encounter killings, Jammu and Kashmir police have started investigation into the mysterious death of a woman police constable last year.
Official sources said the body of Neelofar was fished out from the Dal Lake on February 2, 2006.
Neelofar, a resident of Bandipora, was posted in the cantonment area. She went missing before her body was recoverd and later buried at Dalgate grave.
Sources said the family members had alleged she was not killed by militants as was reported in the media.
Encouraged after arresting four police officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Hans Raj Parihar and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP-Operations) Ganderbal Bahadur Ram for allegedly killing some innocents in fake encounters in Ganderbal area, the police have decided to investigate all other fake encounter allegations.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed around the grave of Neelofar at Dalgate today.
The body will be exhumed this afternoon or tomorrow for taking samples for DNA mapping, a police official told UNI.
The Sources said police believed that Neelofar was killed by some police and security personnel before her body was thrown into the Dal Lake.
