BJP launches door-to-door pre-election campaign in Goa

Panaji, Feb 4 (UNI) The BJP today launched a door-to-door pre-election campaign all across the Union Territory to win over the electorate in the coming elections to the 40-member Goa Legislative Assembly in May.

Opposition leader and former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar led the campaign in Calangute constituency and party president Shripad Naik, MP, in neighbouring Saligao.

They distributed booklets explaining the salient features of the achievements under the BJP rule during Mr Parrikar's tenure and presented the comparative achievements during the Congress rule of Pratapsinh Rane.

The coloured brochure, carrying a carricature showing Congress leaders pulling the chair of the Chief Minister in order to unseat Mr Rane, was released on February 2 by former national president of the party M Venkaiah Naidu.

The carricature also showed the helplessness of the party general secretary in charge of Goa desk Margret Alva while Rane's chair was being pulled by south Goa MP Churchil Alemao, Industries Minister Luizinho Faleiro, former minister Atanasio Monserrate, GPCC chief Ravi Naik even as Deputy Chief Minister and Chief of NCP Wilfred de Souza were also having an eye on it.

The brochure also attempted to expose the myths behind various schemes, including the controversial Regional Plan-2011 with ''Goa on Sale'', SEZ and IT parks giving way to ''official land loot scam'' and several new projects that were confined to announcements and foundation stones.

The BJP brought to the fore the mounting corruption, unemployment and price spiral, social tensions and strifes, indecisions and dissensions.

Mr Naidu had addressed a massive pre-election rally at Mapusa in North Goa on February 1 and Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi in Margao in South Goa the next day as part of the campaign.
