Shankaranarayanan sworn in as 13th Nagaland Governor

Kohima, Feb 3 (UNI) Mr Katteekal Shankaranarayanan, a former minister of Kerala, was today sworn-in as the 13th Governor of Nagaland at a simple function in Rajbhavan here.

Acting Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Justice D Biswas administered the oath and secrecy to the new Governor in presence of Assembly Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his cabinet colleagues, Opposition Leader I Imkong, Chief Secretary Lalhuma and senior state and central officials including Army officers.

Mr Shankaranarayan (74) replaced outging Governor Shyamal Datta.

Later he was given a civic reception by the Kohima Municipal Council and other NGOs.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Shankaranarayan said the social well being and development of Nagaland depended on the peace and harmony and underlined the need for preserving state's rich cultural heritage.
