Rally to list government's achievement in four years: Cong

Shimla, Feb 3 (UNI) The March 6 rally, being organised by the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committe (HPCC) here, will highlight its government's achievements during the last four years in power, party spokesman Kuldeep Singh Rathore said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the rally, which would be addressed by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and HPCC President Viplove Thakur, would list out the achievements of Congress government during the last four years.

Mr Rathore said party leaders from all districts of the state would take part in the rally that will be organised at the local Ice Staking Rink here.

Referring to the state BJP Chief's claim that they had been denied permission to hold a rally here on March 6, he said, a responsible opposition should have booked the venue of rally in advance instead of accusing the government of denying it permission.

He said in a democracy it was essential that the Opposition played its role to perfection but should desist from crying hoarse over every petty issue.

It was normal for a ruling party to hold a rally on completion of four years of its government in power, he said, adding the BJP could hold a rally before or after the Congress rally.

The HPCC Congress spokesman said 31 state leaders have been asked to campaign for party candidates in Punjab where the HPCC Chief is acting as the poll co-coordinator since the state party chief is contesting assembly elections.

Similarly, 18 state party leaders have been asked to campaign for the Congress party candidates in Uttarakhand assembly elections, he added.

He said the HPCC would soon hold district committee meetings after March to galvanise the party for the assembly elections, which are due in February 2008.

The party would also impress upon AICC President Sonia Gandhi to address a few places, including Kullu and Mandi, in the state during the year, he added.
