Marathi film 'Baleerajacha Rajya Yeu De' tells of farmers' woes
Kolhapur, Feb 2 (UNI) Even as results of municipal corporation elections were pouring in from different parts of the state, a Marathi film ''Baleerajacha Rajya Yeu De (Pave the way for farmers' rule)'' was released here today.
Addressing a joint press conference here, film producer Arun Kachre and director Satish Randive said the film is a portrayal of the woes of the farmers like crop losses, low prices for their produce, indebtedness, and the government's negligence -- all of which are contributory factors that force the farmers to commit suicide.
The film tells the story of ''Satyawan'', a farmer who tries to change the system but loses his life. His widow ''Savitree'' carries forward the task with the help of her two sons. Balee, the eldest son, undertakes an awareness campaign in the village with a view to dissuade farmers from committing suicide and encourage them to fight bad elements and corrupt officials.
Ashok Saraf plays the role of a private money lender in the film, while Dr Girish Oak and Neena Kulkarani play the roles of the Satyavan and Savitree. Sachin Khedekar and Prasad Oak play the role of the two sons. Item girl Rakhi Sawant also features in the film along with veteran actor Chandrakant Gokhale, Sudhir Dalvi, and Diptee Samel.
