K'taka Taekwondo team selected for National Games

Bangalore, Feb 3 (UNI) An eight-member men's taekwondo team and as many women's players have been selected to represent Karnataka in the 33rd National Games, to be held in Rudra Singha Indoor Stadium in Dispur from February ten to 13.

The men's team comprised Tufan Kumar Poddar (SAI-Bangalore) in Fin category, John Victor (SAI-Bangalore) in flyweight category, A Rajnikanta (SAI-Bangalore) in batamweight category, Mohammed Imran (Bangalore) in feather weight category, Pankaj Dheer (SAI-Bangalore) in lightweight category, B P Kiran (Karnataka State Police) in welter category, K Lohith Kumar (Bangalore) in middleweight category and Bhaskar Mahan Cairaf (Bangalore ) in heavyweight category. While B N Venkatesh would be the Coach, C Dorai would be the Manager, a Karnataka Taekwondo Association release here said today.

The women's team comprised Anitha M (Chitradurga) in fin weight category, Prakruthi K (Bangalore) in flyweight category, Tejaswini B (SAI-Bangalore)in bantam weight category, P Rekha Devi (Bangalore) in feather weight category, Anusha G (Banagalore) in light weight category, A Haripiyari Devi (Bangalore) in welter weight category, S K Pallavi (Bangalore) in middle weight category and Reena Malik (Bangalore) in heavy weight category. The teams's Coach and Manager would be Syed Manfoosh and M Sunitha respectively, the release said.

In the last edition of the National Games held in 2002 in Visakhapatnam, the Karnataka team won seven golds, four silvers and a bronze medal and was the Team Champion.
