Four hurt as supporters of poll rivals clash
Nagpur, Feb 3 (UNI) Four people, including a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) and a constable, were injured in a stone pelting incident during a clash that occurred here today between supporters of rival candidates, who contested the February 1 elections for the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The police had to resort to a lathicharge to disperse the violent mob.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amitesh Kumar told UNI that the Shiv Sena candidate Bandu Talewar, who won from ward number 6 (Garib Nawaz Nagar), had a heated argument with Ibrahim Khan (Independent), who lost. The altercation led to a clash between their supporters, leading to stone pelting from both sides.
Policemen immediately reached the spot and resorted to a lathi charge to control the situation, Mr Kumar said.
The police have arrested 65 persons in this connection and the situation is now peaceful, he added.
