Tribal Sanghs welcome delimitation of Asom constituencies

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The All Assam Tribal Sangh and South Kamrup District Tribal Sangh have welcomed the decision of the Delimitation Commission to finalise the delimitation of constituencies in Asom.

Talkling to UNI, the Chief Convenor of Bodo Coordination Committee Swadhin Boro and President of South Kamrup District All Bodo Students' Union Pradeep Boro jointly condemned the decision of all political parties of Asom to appeal for a stay of the entire delimitation process.

They said,'' we totally oppose the self-interested decision of these parties.'' If the constituencies' delimitation of Asom is completed then ''maximum of the so-called political leaders will lose their constituencies, so to save their own political future they are trying to stop the whole process of delimitation,'' they added.

The ''political parties of Asom after Kumbhkarna sleep suddenly woke up about the National Registration of Citizens (NRC). They put forward a strange demand to settle the NRC matter first just before when the final decision of constituencies delimitation process was to be taken,'' according to the Sangh leaders.

The Sangh leaders said ''we are not against the NRC but it is a time-consuming, legal and constitutional process. It should take its own path, on the other hand if the delimitation of constituencies of Asom is stopped then the common people of newly proposed contituencies will be deprived of constitutional rights upto 25 to 30 years.'' ''We think it will be a great injustice to the common people of Asom as a whole who are already deprived of their constitutional rights since independence.

We demand the Delimitation Commission to finalise the constituencies delimitation of Asom within a short period otherwise the Tribal Sangh will take the necessary agitational programme,'' the Sangh leaders asserted.
