Train reaches Barmer after five months

Barmer, Feb 2 (UNI) The Barmer-Jodhpur railway line reopened today after a gap of five months.

The train services were stopped after floods that had inundated Kawas station situated midway between Barmer and Jodhpur, submerged the tracks in August last year.

Trains were being run between Jodhpur and Baitu till now.

Water has receded from the flooded station of Kawas. North Western Railways General Manager S B Bhattacharya and engineers inspected the tracks two days back.

A train without passengers reached Barmer today. Divisional Railway Manager M K Khanna arrived in the train which returned to Jodhpur around 1400 hrs.

Mr Khanna said the train will start bringing passengers from Saturday onwards and the express train service would resume three days later.

With the resumption of train services, the proposal to restart the Thar Express on March 10 may take off.
