Coimbatore, Feb 2: Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) is conducting a survey in the southern region on the requirement of skilled labourers to meet the industries' demand for occasional courses.

This was informed by CII's Southern Region Education Sub-Committee Chairman and CEO, who also heads Encore Software Ltd, Vinay L Deshpande today.

Inaugurating the two-day Regional Summit on 'Managing Change in Higher Educational Institutions' here, he said once the survey is complete the nature of skilled requirements would be ascertained and based on that the courses would be recommended by the Government.

He said CII has sent a proposal to the Government to establish a 'Bank for Skills' to help the students continue their higher level education.

Under this programme, there will be a collateral agreement between the educational institutions, students and industry to provide loans to the institutions and imparting training directly from the bank, he added.

Mr Deshpande said, according to an International Survey, Indian economy would become a force to reckon with in 2015 due to its potential in human resources.

Coimbatore Zone CII Chairman, Jayakumar Ramdass in his address said though the number of higher educational institutions had increased, only eight to nine per cent had presently enrolled such institutions.

He said CII would bring together educators, educationists and industry leaders to share the best practices of some educational institutions that have already made a mark and can be reckoned on par with any word-class institutions.
