Sankararaman murder case hearing posted for Feb 26

Puducherry, Feb 2 (UNI) A local court today posted the hearing in the Sankararaman murder case in which the Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Sarswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the prime accused for February 26.

Fifteen out of the 24 accused, including the Acharyas, failed to turn up before the court when the case came up for hearing. Separate petitions citing the reason for their absence was filed by their fellow accused as lawyers did not turn up following a court boycott today.

The case could not be taken up following a boycott of the court by the lawyers and also since the proceedings in the case was stayed by the Supreme Court following a special leave petition (SLP) challenging the appearence of the Tamil Nadu special public prosecutor in the case in Puducherry. The SLP is still pending before the apex court.
