Road accidents in HP on decline, claims police

Shimla, Feb 2 (UNI) Claiming that its public awareness and safety measures were yielding results, the Himachal Pradesh Police said the number of people killed in the road accidents in the state have registered a decline from 836 in 2004 to 770 in 2006 Simultaneously, the number of road accidents in the state have also registered a decline from 2808 in 2004 to 2483 in 2006, Assistant Inspector General (Headquarters) Vinod Dhawan said in a statement here yesterday.

He said the number of people injured during the period had also come down to 4,590 from 4,975 during the same period.

The decline in road accidents and the number of people killed and injured could be attributed to its public awareness and concern for road safety measures, Mr Dhawan added.
