New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Municipal authorities to remove the garbage bins from the entrance of the schools, which were hazardous to the health of students.

''We direct the authorities to initiate immediate steps to remove the garbage bins from the entrance of the schools. The MCD and NDMC should also ensure that the garbage was not scattered to the entrance of the schools,'' said a Division Bench comprising Justices Swatanter Kumar and H R Malhotra while hearing a PIL petition filed by Advocate Ashok Agrawal of Social Jurist.

The Court said it was the duty of the municipal authorites to provide hygienic and clean toilets to the public in the Capital.

People seek direction of the court through PILs to assert their rights as the authorites fail to perform their duties, the court observed.

The Court directed the Committee comprising Bar Council President A S Chandihoke and Ashok Agrawal to visit the zones- Rohini, Karol Bagh, Sahadara and Civil Lines -- to verify the repair works, which were claimed by the municipal authorities in their submissions.

Adjourning the matter till February 6, the court said, ''Apart from paid toilets, the authorities should ensure cleanliness in public toilets for the benefit of millions of people.'' UNI
