Transparent laws needed on organ transplantation
Coimbatore, Feb 2: Puthiya Thamizhagam (PT) Founder-Leader K Krishnasamy today called for transparent laws at state and national level for governing organ donation and transplantation.
Dr Krishnasamy said "exploiting poverty for organ trade was condemnable and constituted violation of human rights".
He suggested forming ''donors Club'' and ''Monitoring Committees'' comprising prominent public figures to eliminate middlemen and prevent the exploitation of the poor.
The issue was difficult to deal, though, as one had to balance the the requirements of those who had to undergo kidney transplantation for survival and tackling exploitation of the poor for organ trade.
In this context, there was a need for a new law to bring greater transparency to the process.
Turning to other issues, the PT leader urged the state government to fix daily wages for tea estate workers at Rs 150.
Dr Krishnasamy called for a special budget for the benefit of Scheduled Castes and minorities who constituted 36 per cent of the population.
His party would organise a national seminar at Chennai on Februry 10 and 11 to discuss issues concerning delimitation of constituencies.
The PT would undertake an agitation in Chennai on February 14 to support their demand to fill up the backlog of 525 vacancies for college teachers.
The leader also planned to start an awareness camp for public on hypertension and diabetes which were the main causes for kidney failure and heart attack.
