Prince of Arcot hails Bombay HC verdict on triple talaq

Chennai, Feb 2 (UNI) Prince of Arcot Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ali today welcomed the recent verdict on Triple Talaq by the Bombay High Court which held it was not in line with the Holy Quran and that a mere pronouncement of intention to divorce was not enough.

In a press release here, the Prince said the common misconception was that a Muslim could divorce his wife merely by saying 'talaq' thrice.

Hailing the judgement, the Prince called upon the learned Ulema, Muslim scholars and intellectuals to properly educate the people on religious aspects.

''It must be understood that according to the Quran, the pronouncement of even the first talaq will not have any effect if it is not preceded by efforts at reconciliation directly by the parties themselves and through the appointment of two arbitrators, one from each side, to bring about unity and love between the contending couple,'' he added.
