People revolt as police arrest Maoist leader
Midnapore, Feb 2 (UNI) The police today fired 20 rounds in the air to disperse a mob when it tried to prevent the arrest of a Maoist leader at Birulia village in this district.
West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Raja Rajshekharan said the police had to fire 20 rounds in the air as the local people tried to prevent them from arresting Maoist leader Jugal Kishore.
However, no one was injured in the firing, he added.
He further said two other maoists, Nirmal Mahato and Jamini Mahato were also arrested from Bamundiha village near here after getting information about them from Jugal.
Nirmal was involved in a bomb blast on February 25, 2005, that killed four pepole near Belpahari and Jamini was an ex-Zilla Parishad Member elected on a Jharkhand Party ticket.
The police also recovered some incriminating documents from Jugal's possession.
