NHRC notice to Punjab Govt on corporal death of 6-year-old girl
New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the Punjab DGP and sought a factual report within four weeks about the reported death of a six-year-old girl due to corporal punishment by her teacher.
Taking suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports about the incident, the Commission has directed the copy of the news story be send to the DGP.
The Commission said the incident raised a serious issue of Human Rights violation.
According to the January 14 report, the first standard student of a private school in Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar was severely beaten up by the teacher on January 4. She succumbed to the injuries ten days later in a hospital.
The Commission also took note of a report of police atrocities on farmers at Chabba near Amritsar. It has sought a report about the incident from the state Chief Secretary and the DGP.
