Ranchi, Feb 2 (UNI) Rebellion against new Jharkhand BJP president Pashupati Nath Singh, who took charge today, came to the fore as party vice president Ramtahal Chowdhuri claimed that Mr Singh was made state chief by the will of the Central leadership.

Two known contenders for the post--former Finance Minister Raghubar Das and Mr Chowdhuri--did not turn up for the function held for the new president's ''coronation'' here.

Talking to UNI on phone, he said when the process for the new president was on, ''we apprehended that the leadership will impose its decision''. ''Then what was the need of sending observers and conducting survey?'' he added.

The observer did not listen to the suggestion of the state leaders and instead ''selected'' a person to lead the BJP in the state.

Asked if he would quit, Mr Chowdhuri said, ''No. And I will see on what ground the party takes action against me.'' He, however, attributed his absence at today's function to personal engagement.

Mr Das, another contender in the race, could not be contacted.
