Gramneen Bank will appoint its CEO soon: Nobel Laureate Prof Yunus
Mumbai, Feb 2 (UNI) Chairman of Grameen Bank, Prof Muhammad Yunus of Bangla Desh, who is the winner of Nobel Peace Prize for Peace in the year 2006, has said that his bank was under the process of appointing its CEO.
Delivering a speech on 'Social Business entrepreneurs are the solution' here last evening he said that "We want to appoint a CEO to take care of our entire activities". In response to the advertisement given by the bank in the media for the post in recent past, a number of aspirants have sent across their applications from Bangla Desh as well as from India too. However no final selection has been held so far. Prof Yunus said that we are ready to offer the pack best prevailing in the industry to get the right person for the post.
However, he rued over the fact that no offer has come from India as yet for the Grameen Bank's plan to go for the constitution of 'Social business fund'. It is despite the fact that we ahve already received positive response from an industrialist in China for the same, he said.
In reply to a query he said that the Gramen Bank was working in the remote part of Bangla Desh only. However, he revealed that the bank has approached to the country's government seeking the approval for spreading its wings to the urban areas too. The idea is to make cent-per-cent poor household rich ones by 2010. But when I say it I'm aware that we ahve a long way to go, he hastened. In reply to another media query he said that we have invite Indian industry to come forward with some project relating to health improvement. He ensured taht the strong distribution network of Grameen Bank will make the venture success. Each of our staff numbering 25,000 meets 600 customers daily which makes our distribution network quite strong, he revealed.
