Four police personnel killed, 3 injured in Kashmir ambush

Srinagar, Feb 2 (UNI) Four Jammu and Kashmir police personnel were killed and three others were wounded when militants ambushed a patrol party in south Kashmir this afternoon, official sources said.

They said militants ambushed a police party at Check Litter, Wasun, about 40 km from here in south Kashmir district of Pulwama this afternoon.

Three police personnel were killed on the spot and 6 others were wounded, the sources said, adding reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps and a massive hunt was launched to nab the attackers. One of the injured later died on way to the hospital.

The injured have been admitted to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura. The dead includes a head constable, a police spokesman said.

The Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This was the second major attack by the HM in Pulwama district during the past two weeks. Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and an equal number were wounded when HM militants triggered a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Awantipora.
