Former CM and BJP leader to contest Assembly polls for last time
Dehradun, Feb 2 (UNI) Former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nityanand Swami today declared that the 2007 Assembly polls would be his last election.
Claiming that he is not in the race of chief ministership, Mr Swami, who is the BJP candidate from Laxman Chowk constituency said,''I would not claim for the CM seat.'' He had lost the seat in the last Assembly elections to the Congress candidate with meagre 800 votes. Mr Swami said that though he would quit contesting election after the current one he would remain with the party as a true soldier.
Taking strong exception to the reported incident of the Congress workers pulling down the BJP flags in few places, he said looking into the increasing public support to his party the Congress has resorted to such mean recourse.
''It is the murder of democracy and culprits ought to be brought to the book,'' he stressed.
