EC conveys displeasure to Sukhbir Badal

New Delhi, Feb 2: The Election Commission (EC) today conveyed its displeasure to Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal and several other candidates belonging various political parties for violating the model code of conduct in a run up to the assembly polls in Punjab.

They were earlier served with showcause notices for alleged violation of various provisions of the model code of conduct.

After considering their replies, the EC has warned Mr Badal, son of Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal and other contestants to be careful in future, sources said.

In its notice to Mr Sukhbir Badal, the EC said that he had used a helicopter to address an election rally in support of his party candidate. The chopper had landed in a school ground which was a breach of security and no permission was obtained from the district authorities.

The EC had earlier slapped showcause notices on Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and Mr Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly violating the model code of conduct.
