Bangalore, Feb 2 (UNI) In one of the biggest ever series produced, the Discovery Channel will provide a stunning television experience on earth in its eleven-part 'Planet Earth', which went on air yesterday.
The series in production over the last five years at a cost of Rs 100 crore, involving 40 cameramen and filmed across 20 locations, would take viewers to the last wilderness and show the planet and its wildlife as never seen before.
Narrated by legendary natural historian Sir David Attenborough, the series had been premiered in India even before it was aired on the Discovery Channel in the US.
With high definition photography, the serial provided an unparalleled view of awe inspiring landscapes from across the globe and incredible footage of the rarely spotted, almost mythical creatures that live in some habitats.
Commenting on the serial, Dr K Ullas Karanth, Director of Wildlife Conservation Society's India programme, told newspersons here that the series should be aired in regional language channels also to raise people's awarness on the plight of the planet. A collective effort was necesary to create a sustainable future for all, a balance in which earth and its living beings could live in harmony.
From tropical rain forests to poisonous caves, Planet Earth travelled beyond the stratosphere, deep into earth's core and across each of the continents and promised the most spectacular wildlife footage ever captured on earth. It would be the first natural history series to be filmed entirely in high definition.
