Police constable tries to enter PM's residence

New Delhi, Feb 2: A Delhi traffic police constable today made an unsuccessful attempt to enter the Prime Minister's residence at 7 Race Course Road in New Delhi area this evening.

Bhurra Singh, a traffic police constable, was stopped by Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel when he tried to enter the PM's residence through the outer gate at about 2000 hours, said official sources.

When questioned, he said, ''he wanted to meet the PM.'' He was detained and handed over to the Delhi Police.

He was later taken to South Avenue police post where officials of Central Security agencies along with the SPG interrogated him.

Meanwhile, sources said the constable was under the influence of liquor and sounded mentally unbalanced.

This is the second case in the last eight months when an attempt was made to breach the security set-up at the PM's residence.

On July 22 last, two young women and a man had unsuccessfully tried to enter the PM's residence gate.
